Standards compliance
All pages on the Res Ipsa site are written to the XHTML 1.0 Transitional standard, use Cascading Style Sheets for presentation and aim to meet the "AA" conformance level of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. This means that the Res Ipsa website can be viewed in all modern browsers, regardless of platform or device.
Some older browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer 4 and Netscape 4) do not comply with these web standards. A minority of our visitors still use these browsers and, as a result, will not experience the site as we have intended. They will be able to read the pages and navigate the site, but the site will look basic in comparison.
How to change the text size of this website?
If you are using Internet Explorer, to increase or decrease the text size, use the Text Size setting in the View menu (at the top of the screen). The default setting is Medium.
In browsers other than Internet Explorer, there will be a similar setting. For example, in Netscape versions 6 and above the option is called Text Zoom.
Access keys
If you have difficulty in using a mouse or similar devices, you can use keyboard shortcuts. Most web browsers support shortcuts called access keys that you can use to jump to specific areas of the site.
How to use access keys
Different browsers require slightly different key combinations to use an access key
Internet Explorer 5+ (non-Mac)
Hold down the ALT key, press the number or letter of the access key, release both keys then press ENTER
Internet Explorer 4 (non Mac)
Hold down the ALT key and press the number or letter of the access key
Internet Explorer 5+ for Mac
Hold down the CTRL key and press the number or letter of the access key
Internet Explorer 4.5 for Mac
Access keys are not supported
Netscape 6+
Hold down the ALT key and select the number or letter of the access key
Netscape (earlier versions)
Access keys are not supported
The Res Ipsa website has special access keys:

- Alt+2 = skip to main content of current page (for non-visual browsers)
